Frame by Frame Video Player

This is a frame by frame player. Open a video here, then move one frame at a time.

MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV · up to 2 GB · decoded on this device, never uploaded

This page opens as a frame by frame player. Once the video is playing in the tab, forward and back move a single frame when the file lists a frame rate. The counter under the player is that frame's number.

You can keep the picture you stopped on. Capture writes the format picked below — PNG unless you switch it. A saved set from the side panel stops at 300 pictures, and the file itself can be up to 2 GB.

MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV, and AVI are the containers worth trying. If this browser cannot play the file, there is no picture to step through, and the file is not sent away to be converted.

How to step one frame at a time

  1. 1Open the video

Drop it on the box above, or choose the file. Playback stays in this tab.

  2. 2Click forward or back

Each click is one frame when the file lists a frame rate. The counter under the player moves with you.

  3. 3Save the PNG

Capture this frame keeps the picture you stopped on. A set, if you want one, comes from the panel beside the player.

To save a run of PNG stills from an MP4, open MP4 to PNG.

What the ranking pages do

On 18 Oct 2026 I opened the ten results for this wording. Two are store listings for the same phone app. One is a Mac download page that tells you to install a player. One is another store listing you install. One article points at desktop players. One how-to gives keyboard steps inside a desktop player. Two are forum threads about desktop players. One page did not return the post. One page stopped on a browser check and showed no answer.

None of those pages played a file in the browser, one frame per click, without an install. This page does. Open the file here. When it lists a frame rate, forward moves one frame and the counter shows the number. You can save that still as a PNG. The video is not uploaded.

What this page will not pretend to do

  • One video at a time, up to 2 GB. A saved set stops at 300 frames.
  • A numbered frame appears only when the file lists a frame rate. Otherwise one click moves a thirtieth of a second and the counter stays at frame —.
  • The saved PNG keeps the decoded width and height. This page does not scale it up.
  • No second video beside the first, no drawing on the frame, and no slow-motion playback.
  • If the browser cannot play the file, this page cannot step through it.

What frame by frame means here

Frame by frame means the next click is the next picture, not a one-second jump. The arrow keys do the same step. Hold Shift with an arrow when you do want one second.

FAQ

How do I move one frame?

Open the video, then use the forward or back button under the player. When the file lists a frame rate, that click moves one frame and the counter changes by one.

Do I have to install this frame by frame player?

No. It runs in this browser tab. There is nothing to install and no account to make.

What if the counter says frame —?

The file did not list a frame rate. One click then moves a thirtieth of a second, and the page does not invent a frame number.

Can I save the frame I stopped on?

Yes. Capture writes the format picked below — PNG unless you switch it, and the side panel saves a set the same way.

Does the video leave this device?

No. The file is read in this tab. Closing the tab drops it.

Will one click always be the next frame?

Only when the file's own metadata includes a frame rate. Without that, the click moves time, not a numbered frame.

Can I put two videos side by side?

No. This page plays one video. It does not line up a second clip, and it does not draw on the picture.
